Ascent is dance theatre with drums, exposing aggressive masculinity and learning to love the mature masculine within. The performers speak precisely as to avoid any mincing of their meanings, while under the duress of intense physicality and getting intimate with each other. Booming against the Japanese Taiko drum, the men seek mutuality. Ascent was created by Adam Kerbel with Shih-Wei Willie Wu; dramaturgy by Lisa Dring; lighting design by Brandon Baruch; costume consultation by Amelia Charter.
ASCENT was developed during Terra Nova Choreographic Residency, a project of Rosanna Gamson/World Wide with support from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
